Add emergency range—without skipping the safety checks.

Calculate emergency EV range, charging power and time, then verify the Mode 2 EVSE, grounding path and manufacturer support before connecting an electric car.

Interactive emergency-charge check

Calculate emergency range in four clear steps.

We only show what you need now. Your entries are preserved when you go back.

Step 1 of 5

Do you already have a power station?

Choose what you want to do. We'll only show the questions relevant to your situation.

Why this is emergency range

A large watt number is not a complete charging solution.

The car sees the power station as a small AC source. The onboard charger then determines how much AC power reaches the traction battery.

W

Output determines whether charging starts

At 120 V, 6 A requests about 720 W. A 13 A EVSE requests about 1,560 W; that must remain within continuous output.

Wh

Energy determines added range

Rated station energy shrinks after inverter and charging losses. Divide planned energy into the car by measured or stated vehicle consumption.

⏚

Grounding can block charging

A charging cable may detect a missing grounding reference and correctly refuse to operate. Use only the exact manufacturer-documented solution.

Do not improvise

Safe charging starts with three checks.

The vehicle may refuse to charge for a good reason. Never bypass protection just to make it charge.

01

Grounding

  • No homemade neutral-earth bond or generic grounding plug.
  • Follow the instructions of the vehicle, EVSE and power-station manufacturers.
02

EVSE and cable

  • No ordinary cable without Mode 2 control and protection.
  • No extension lead unless every relevant manufacturer explicitly permits it.
03

Start carefully

  • Set a low charging current before testing and supervise the first complete cycle.
  • Charge only in a safe, ventilated and dry setup, and account for heat.

Always re-check the current manuals.

FAQ

Common questions

Can an electric car charge from a portable power station?+

Sometimes, when continuous output is sufficient and the manufacturer supports the exact EV charging and grounding path. A suitable Mode 2 EVSE is still required.

How much EV range can a power station add?+

It depends on usable energy after conversion losses and the vehicle consumption in Wh per kilometre. A portable station normally provides emergency range, not a full traction-battery charge.

Why might the car refuse to charge?+

The EVSE or vehicle may stop for inadequate grounding, incorrect voltage, overload, temperature or a cable fault. Never bypass these protections.
