Earlier trip and later fire reports
City Power placed the earlier unplanned Central Substation trip at approximately 05:20 SAST on 29 October. Operators were initially dispatched to investigate, with repairs dependent on the assessment. By 09:57 SAST, technical and protection teams were on site investigating and testing, with no current evidence of smoke reported at that time.
A later operator post reported a feederboard fire, with its team and Emergency Services on site monitoring the situation. The 30 October notice describes a flare-up shortly before midnight on 29 October. The technical continuity between the morning trip and later fire remains unresolved, as does any relationship to the separate September event. The latest restoration statement does not establish the underlying cause.
Planning essential household power

The runtime calculator compares device demand with battery capacity, while the internet backup guide supports connectivity planning.
