Emmarentia and Roosevelt Park outage: Braids Street still off

City Power reported on 8 November that power had been restored to up to 99% of affected customers in Emmarentia and Roosevelt Park. Braids Street in Emmarentia remained without power in that update. The operator attributed the remaining interruption there to a cable fault between the Mtata & Komatie transformer substation and minisubstation 029497.

In 20 seconds

  1. City Power acknowledged the outage on 7 November 2026.

  2. City Power reported restoration to up to 99% of affected customers in the two areas.

  3. The operator reported that Braids Street in Emmarentia remained off due to a cable fault.

What City Power reported

In its morning update on 8 November, City Power said it had secured repair materials and that the contractor was on the way. City Power later said the contractor was on site working on four load centres that were without power. Those load centres served affected customers in Emmarentia and Roosevelt Park.

The later restoration figure refers to affected customers. City Power did not give a total customer count in the available updates, so the percentage does not establish how many connections were restored or how many were still off. The notices also do not establish when the interruption began.

What remained off

City Power identified the cable fault in its update about the remaining Braids Street interruption. The cause of the original interruption across the four load centres remains unverified, and the available updates give no time for full restoration. City Power separately reported full restoration for affected customers in Linden after a cable fault reported on 6 November. It did not link that notice to the four load centres.

Backup planning

For a future interruption, the runtime calculator can help estimate how long a battery will run the devices you select. The internet backup planner focuses on equipment such as a router and modem. Start by listing the devices you need, then check each device’s power requirements before comparing backup options.
