How long will a power station run a portable fridge?
Portable fridge runtime explained with compressor duty cycle, ambient temperature and a transparent 1,024Wh planning example.

Ambient heat and fridge insulation create the wide range.

Comparison table
| Compressor duty | Average load | Energy per day | Estimated runtime |
|---|---|---|---|
| 25% | 11.25W | 270Wh | 72.8 hours |
| 50% | 22.5W | 540Wh | 36.4 hours |
| 75% | 33.75W | 810Wh | 24.3 hours |
Planning estimate only. Real runtime varies with temperature, load behavior, battery condition and conversion path.

Use your own watts, hours and reserve.
A realistic input gives you a useful range instead of a false promise.

for your choice?
Duty cycle matters more than the label alone
The compressor switches on and off. A fridge drawing 45W while running does not necessarily consume 1,080Wh every day. The percentage of time it runs determines daily energy use.
Heat can halve the result
Hot ambient air, frequent opening, warm food, poor ventilation and a low temperature setting make the compressor run longer. A cool, pre-chilled and well-ventilated fridge needs less energy.
Prefer the native DC path
Many compressor fridges accept 12V or 24V directly. This can avoid running an AC inverter continuously. Confirm the supported voltage and use the correct fused cable and low-voltage protection setting.

Check the complete power path.
A large enough battery can still be the wrong setup when its output, cable or regional version does not match.
- Measured running watts or current at the intended voltage
- Realistic hot-weather compressor duty cycle
- Correct 12V/24V cable and fuse
- Battery low-voltage cutoff behaviour
- Solar harvest calculated separately from consumption
Practical answers
Why can two identical batteries give different fridge runtimes?
Ambient temperature, ventilation, set temperature, contents, opening frequency, cable voltage drop and inverter use all change how long the compressor runs.
Should I calculate from watts or amp-hours?
Watt-hours make batteries and loads at different voltages easier to compare. Convert current with watts = volts × amps, then multiply average watts by hours.
Will a 200W solar panel run the fridge indefinitely?
Not automatically. Daily solar harvest must exceed fridge consumption plus charging losses, including on poor-weather days. Battery capacity still bridges nights and weak sun.
